Human medicine

 Sommer Semester 2026

The course Pharmacology and Toxicology provides medical students with comprehensive knowledge on the prescription of drugs as well as on the pharmacology of the currently available pharmaceuticals. Focus areas are e.g. cardiovascular drugs (e.g. treatment of myocardial infarction and hypertension) and neuorpharmacology (e.g. pharmacological therapy of depression and parkinsons disease). In addition, we teach the toxicology of relevant drugs and poisons. In the seminars, topics in pharmacology and toxicology are taught in small groups, with a focus on the discussion of clinically relevant case studies and an interactive seminar format. Furthermore, a lecture series offers the opportunity to deepen subject knowledge on selected topics.

The seminars will be held in person and will take place between 15.06. and 31.07.2026.

Monday to Thursday: 08:30-10:00, 10:30-12:00

Tuesday and Thursday: 13:00-14:30

Regular attendance is mandatory, with a maximum of eight absences allowed.

Exam: 03.08.2026, 15h, 2nd Exam: will be announced

Please also refer to the eCampus course for current announcements.

Dentistry

Sommer Semester 2026

In this course, comprehensive expertise in pharmacology and toxicology is taught to our dental students. In particular, the dentistry-related aspects of drug therapy, pharmacology and toxicology, as well as prescribing of medications are covered in this course. Participants studying under the old study regulations are specifically prepared for the oral exam Pharmacology and Toxicology in Z3.

The seminars will be held in person and will take place between 20.04. and 24.07.2026 on Fridays between 13:15 h and 14:45h.

Regular attendance is mandatory, with a maximum of two absences allowed.

Exam: 31.07.2026, 13h, 2nd Exam: 07.08.2026, 13h

Please also refer to the eCampus course for current announcements.

Master of Neuroscience

We offer the module "WPM 13- Neuropharmacology".

In this interdisciplinary module students will gain broad knowledge on research of drug mechanisms and targets in the field of neurological disorders as well as drug research, development and drug regulatory affairs. In addition, the students learn how to work with cell cultures and will be able to analyse, interpret and present their experimental data. The interdisciplinary topics will be presented by docents from academia and from the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (Bundesinstitut für Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte, BfArM). The module is composed of a seminar and a practical course to apply the gained knowledge in the lab.

Master of Drug Research

We offer the module "WPB 18 - Neuropharmakology".

Here, we teach advanced pharmacology with a focus on drug targets and pharmacological mechanisms as well as drug research, development and drug regulatory affairs. The module is composed of a lecture, a seminar and a practical course to apply the gained knowledge in the lab.

Master of Molecular Cell Biology

We offer the module "MCB - EM7 Pharmacology & Metabolism".

This elective module is dedicated to understanding and investigating how small molecular modulators can be used to specifically target metabolic pathways. Attendees will be introduced to working with cell cultures and e.g. viral vectors as well as pharmacological metabolic measurements. The practical work will be supported by seminars covering, among other, signal transduction, metabolism and pharmacology.

Bachelor of Molecular Biomedicine

We offer the elective module D.

In this module, we teach fundamentals of molecular pharmacology, toxicology, pathobiochemistry, and the pathophysiology of major diseases. Students acquire a comprehensive understanding of the molecular basis of important diseases as well as the molecular mechanisms of key pharmaceuticals. We teach pathophysiology and disease mechanisms as a basis for rational drug therapy as well as the molecular mechanisms of drug interactions. The module consists of seminars and practical courses.
